Living in the Monolit residential estate

MONOLIT is a bright and open community. The variously placed structures of the nine apartment buildings are connected with each other by well-lit footpaths, surrounded by generous amounts of green space. These modern Engadin houses are set at optimal expositions toward the sun and the mountain panorama of the Lower Engadin. They are equipped with well thought-out bicycle parking, and the underground parking provides direct access by lift to the individual apartments. There is also a playground and communal area to enjoy.

Interior world and outlook

Typical of all MONOLIT apartments is the east-west exposition of the dayrooms, which follows the valley’s orientation. Kitchen and dining areas look out toward the border, and on the opposite side, from the living room or wind-sheltered veranda, one can enjoy the unobstructed view toward Tarasp Castle and the Upper Engadin. All rooms have a direct connection to the exterior space, meaning that the view of the surrounding mountains can also be enjoyed from the kitchen and bathrooms.

THE Monolith

A monolithic cube stands as an architectural element in the middle of the dayroom. This monolith helps form the room by dividing the central space into eating and living areas. However, the cube functions as much more than a room divider: beside its function as kitchen and fireplace, it also contains a cloakroom, storage room and even serves as conduit for the building’s utilities. Through its detached placement and its special tonality, it is clearly distinguished from the sequence of rooms, dividing the light-flooded dayroom without detracting from its spaciousness. The Monolith itself becomes in this context a central and remarkable element, and together with the imposing view, is an identifying characteristic of the modern MONLIT apartments in Scuol.
