Scuol

That great, calm brilliance

The Engadin Valley is unquestionably the most beautiful alpine valley in the Alps. The clear blue sky, the yellow larch forests in autumn, not to mention the majestic towering mountain peaks, have inspired poets, musicians, painters and philosophers for centuries. While the Upper Engadin has evolved into a glamourous jet-set mecca, the Lower Engadin has remained calmer and true to its origins – indeed, simply more authentic.

The Lower Engadin is among the sunniest regions both in Switzerland as well as the entire Alps. It is bordered to the North by the Silvretta mountain range and to the South by the Engadin Dolomites. This unique and ideal location makes Scuol a mecca for outdoor activities.

In the heart of a lively village

Scuol has retained its provincial character and rustic charm to this very day. The old customs and traditions of the omnipresent, authentic Romansh culture, such as Chalandamarz or Hom Strom, are still very much alive.

Scuol has its roughly 20 mineral-water springs to thank for its reputation. The healing springs, mentioned in historical texts for the first time in 1369, also emerge in the writings of the famous physician, Paracelsus, from 1533. From the 19th century onward, the healing power of the diverse mineral waters drove a veritable boom in local tourism. With the construction of the exquisite Bogn Engiadina Scuol spas and pools for both recreation and health, along with Switzerland’s first Roman-Irish spa, Scuol has developed into a major health and wellness destination.
